Redemption

83. Redemption

HAVING been tenant long to a rich Lord,
Not thriving, I resolved to be bold,
And make a suit unto him, to afford
A new small-rented lease, and cancell th' old.

In heaven at his manour I him sought: 5
They told me there, that he was lately gone
About some land, which he had dearly bought
Long since on earth, to take possession.

I straight return'd, and knowing his great birth,
Sought him accordingly in great resorts; 10
In cities, theatres, gardens, parks, and courts:
At length I heard a ragged noise and mirth

Of theeves and murderers: there I him espied,
Who straight, Your suit is granted, said, & died.

It's Morning

I'm thinking of this blog as a kind of diary. Although I am sure that no one but myself will ever read it, I guess writing online opens the possibility that this will be communication rather than just internal musings.

Each day brings a new morning. The important fact is not the repetition, but the recurrent possibility. Every day it is possible to cooperate with the one who "makes all things new." If I step into this cooperation, the limits of yesterday need no longer apply. If I choose, I can live in the New Jerusalem, but this will not happen automatically. I have to move into that city.
